Get Supplies Ready

First, it’s a good idea to park your bike somewhere flat with good drainage, like on gravel or concrete. Avoid parking it on grass, as the suds and debris could kill your lawn. Plug up the exhaust with a rag and remove anything that you can take off the bike easily so it doesn’t get damaged.

You should have a source of clean water (a garden hose will work), some buckets, a car or motorcycle soap, a hard-bristle brush, a few sponges, paper towels, glass cleaner, chamois cloths, and a mud scraper. A wax or polish may also come in handy when you’re done.

Soap & Scrub

If your bike is really dirty, it may be a good idea to hose it down and apply a grease remover, allowing it to sit for 15 minutes before you use a mud scraper to tackle the grime. Rinse the bike again and fill a bucket with soap and water so you can dip your sponge in it and clean the bike from top to bottom. For tough areas, a hard-bristle scrub brush can be helpful. You can clean your mirrors with a paper towel and glass cleaning spray.

Rinse & Dry

Thoroughly rinse off all the soap from your motorcycle with your hose. You can also use a damp sponge or cloth to clean soap off delicate areas. You can let your motorcycle air-dry or you can use a leaf blower or soft cloths if you want to speed up the process.

Apply Polish

This step isn’t necessary, but a coat of motorcycle polish will make your bike gleam like new. Use a soft chamois cloth to buff the polish in, avoiding the motorcycle seat and the electrical components. If you’re really motivated, you can also apply a tire shine to your wheels.
